City employees raise $3,614 for Food for Families

Food for FamiliesIn preparation for Wednesday’s annual Food for Families drive for the Brazos Valley Food Bank, City of College Station employees conducted several fundraisers to help some area households meet their basic needs.

Our Municipal Court staff consistently leads the annual effort, and did so again in 2012.  Through their leadership, gift baskets were assembled and employees throughout the city organization bought $1 chances at winning the baskets, which reflected themes of a super bowl party, a Memorial Day cookout, Fourth of July celebration and a hill country getaway.  The gift basket fundraisers brought in more than $1,600.

Fire and Police department personnel combined to raise more than $1,100, College Station Utilities brought in more than $280, and additional city departments contributed about $360.

The total collected for the Brazos Valley Food Bank was $3,614 and about 275 pounds of non-perishable food items.

To all city employees who contributed to these fundraisers, and to those who may have given in other ways that help feed needy families in and around our community, thank you.
