Treat your family to an unforgettable overnight campout at Lick Creek Park in the Dark

By Kelli Nesbitt, Parks & Recreation Marketing Coordinator

If you think a memorable overnight campout with your family is only possible far away from College Station, think again. Your family can enjoy stargazing, storytelling, night hikes — and, of course, hot dogs and s’mores — at beautiful Lick Creek Park.

The Parks and Recreation Department’s Park in the Dark events are family-friendly overnight campouts that help you escape the city lights and revel in terrific views of the nighttime sky in our premier nature preserve. The campouts are set for Friday, Sept. 23, and Friday, Oct. 21, with activities starting at 6 p.m.

Schedule of Events

6 p.m.Check-in and campsite set-up
7 p.m.Hot dogs and storytelling
8 p.m.Learn camping basics
8:30 p.m.Night hike
9 p.m.S’mores!
10 p.m.Quiet hours begin
7 a.m.Break camp

The cost is $8 per person, and registration ends the Wednesday before each camp. Kids three years old and younger are free, children must be accompanied by an adult at least 18, and pets and alcohol aren’t allowed. Spots are limited, so sign up today!

We’ll teach you camping basics, but you need to bring a tent, supplies, snacks, and drinks. Sleeping bags, flashlights, a tent lantern, bug spray, and folding chairs are also good ideas. Electricity won’t be available, so bring extra batteries, too.

If you don’t have camping gear, you can rent all you need from Texas A&M’s Outdoor Adventures.

Don’t miss this chance to make unforgettable family camping memories that last a lifetime!
