Looking for a simple, affordable way to stay active?

You don’t need an expensive gym membership to improve your health and quality of life. The College Station Parks and Recreation Department offers fitness classes, open gym times, and a well-equipped fitness center for ages 16 and older at the Lincoln Recreation Center.

The monthly cost is $16 for residents and $20 for non-residents, with daily passes available for $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Passes can be purchased at the Lincoln Recreation Center.

The facility will be closed Nov. 27-28 and Dec. 22-Jan. 1. Here’s a look at the weekly schedule:

FITNESS CENTER (ages 18+)
Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday (through Dec. 14), 3-7 p.m.

The center features cardio machines, a weight training circuit, single-station machines, and free-weight equipment, including benches, barbells, and dumbbells.

ZUMBA (ages 16+)
Monday and Thursday (through Dec. 18), 5:45-6:30 p.m.

The popular program inspired by Latin dance uses easy-to-follow routines and upbeat music for a full-body workout. All levels are welcome.

For a free option, try the Groove Zumba Class on Saturday, Oct. 4, and Nov. 1, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Recreation Center Pavilion.

PICKLEBALL (ages 16+)
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Sunday (through Oct. 26), 3-7 p.m.

Players can practice, play pick-up matches, and connect with friends. Balls and nets are provided, and all skill levels are welcome.

BASKETBALL OPEN GYM (ages 16+)
Sunday (through Dec. 14), 3-7 p.m.

Play a pick-up game or shoot around with friends. Courts are first-come, first-served; reservations aren’t accepted, and basketballs aren’t provided.

We also encourage you to get outside and take advantage of your local parks. Every step counts, whether you commit to walking once a week, taking the kids to the playground, or attending a fitness class.
