Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The College Station Parks and Recreation Department invites you to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy through music, dance, and community spirit at the 42nd Annual Keeping the Dream Alive Musical Celebration at the Lincoln Recreation Center on Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The free celebration honors Dr. King’s lifelong work promoting equality, understanding, and healing. This year’s theme, “Mission Possible II: Re-Building Communities Together,” highlights the power of working together to achieve meaningful change.
The evening will feature music by Matthew Douglas, pianist from First United Methodist Church in College Station, along with a featured soloist, a praise team, the Lincoln Recreation Center Youth Dance Group, and a praise dancer. Together, the performers will guide the audience through an uplifting musical experience celebrating Dr. King’s vision through song, movement, and worship.
The Lincoln Recreation Center staff team will be recognized for “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work.” Staff members will be honored for their years of service and ongoing dedication to strengthening the community and supporting the center’s mission. This recognition will be a surprise to those being honored, emphasizing community appreciation.
The celebration is a meaningful opportunity to reflect, be inspired, and actively participate in keeping Dr. King’s dream alive. The program unites families and community members in hope and collaboration, reinforcing Dr. King’s vision of unity, equality, and service through shared action and purpose.
