Next Stakeholder Committee Meeting

The stakeholder committee meets again on Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. at City Hall to discuss land use, regulations, retail recruitment, housing, and public safety. You can continue to provide input on the Greater Northgate Small Area Plan by submitting a virtual comment card or commenting on the survey map at cstx.gov/northgate.

With the Northgate planning process reaching the midway point, here are the latest updates:

1. New Name

The stakeholder committee has changed the plan’s name to the Greater Northgate Small Area Plan to more accurately reflect the scope of the planning area, which includes not only the Northgate District but also Century Square, Hensel Park, and Northpoint Crossing.

2. Walking Tour

Earlier this month, the stakeholder committee voted to conduct a walking tour of the Northgate District on April 1 to experience conditions on the ground. The tour will set the stage for discussing the entertainment district’s unique character.

3. Extended Timeline

The planning process timeline has been extended, but the plan remains on track to be presented to the City Council this summer. The feedback session for the proposed action plan items has been pushed to May 20 with a follow-up meeting at the committee’s discretion.

4. Vision Statement

The stakeholder committee meetings continue to be positive, productive and well-attended. Each meeting has brought together over 40 Northgate business owners, patrons, and partners, such as TxDOT, Texas A&M, and the City of Bryan. These community members have worked with City staff to develop a vision statement to capture the committee’s aspirations for the Greater Northgate area.

“Rooted in history and tradition, the Greater Northgate Area will be a thoughtfully designed and well-connected hub, bringing together the Northgate District, Century Square, Hensel Park, and Northpoint Crossing. Through strategic planning and collaborative development, we envision pedestrian-friendly connectivity, enhanced infrastructure, and lifestyle conveniences. This plan will foster future community while honoring this historical area for tourists and locals alike.”

The vision statement will help guide the committee’s valuable input on the plan’s direction and recommendations for specific actions.

We look forward to advancing the Great Northgate Small Area Plan over the next few months.
