Ty Warren reflects our community’s Thanksgiving spirit

“No one has ever become poor by giving.” – Anne Frank

The Lincoln Recreation Center on Wednesday will have the privilege of serving 60 delicious Thanksgiving dinners thanks to the immense generosity of Ty Warren, the former Aggie Football great who now plays for the National Football League’s Denver Broncos.

Ty grew up in our community and even worked briefly at the Lincoln Center. Each year at Thanksgiving, Ty recalls his humble beginnings by faithfully giving back to our community in honor of the many local people who contributed to his betterment and successes in life.

We are so blessed to live in such a wonderful community of givers. Countless times, I’ve witnessed a spirit of gratefulness in fellow citizens who search for opportunities to share in one of our country’s most meaningful holidays. True to Abraham Lincoln’s Proclamation of Thanksgiving, we pay it forward to those less fortunate and extend the gift of sharing to friends and family.

Enjoy this special time of togetherness, fun and hopefully some pecan pie or other favorite delight. At the same time, let’s also remember our servicemen and women abroad and offer a prayer for their sacrifice, safekeeping and eventual return home.

Be safe in your travels. Happy Thanksgiving!
