In countless backyard football games across Texas, kids dream of catching the game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.
When I was a kid, we played football in the street or in an open field. We’d wear our favorite team jersey with our favorite player’s number. Sometimes, fights would break out over who got to be what team or pretend he was a certain player. Then, we’d go out and try to duplicate the great play we saw on TV the day before.
These days, young players can get their favorite reversible team jersey through the City of College Station’s youth flag football partnership with NFL Flag.
Registration for our NFL Youth Flag Football leagues starts Monday and runs through Sept. 6. Leagues are available for kids who are between 4 to 14 years old before Aug. 31. The $70 fee includes an NFL logo jersey, flag and team football.
Practices begin in mid-September with games starting Sept. 30. The eight-game season continues through early December. Players can register online or in person at the Parks & Recreation Office at 1000 Krenek Tap Rd.
It’s time to stop dreaming — put on that jersey and join your favorite team by Sept. 6!
