Last week, a travel site called Gogobot placed College Station No. 1 on its list of the Most Exciting Cities in Texas.
Yes, you read that right.
We all love College Station, and it’s certainly not a boring place these days. But THE most exciting city in the best state in America?
Even those of us who spend most of our waking hours at city hall had a hearty chuckle about that one.
Then, late Tuesday, I noticed another list.
WalletHub, a popular financial blog, said College Station has the fifth fastest-growing economy in the country. We’re ranked fourth among mid-sized cities (100,000-300,000 population). Our neighbors in Bryan are No. 8 overall and No. 2 among small cities (under 100,000 population).
It’s no surprise that Texas dominates the list, but the extent of that domination is startling as 13 of the top 15 cities are from the Lone Star state. Joining College Station and Bryan in the top 10 are Odessa, Frisco, Midland, Mission, Killeen, Austin and Round Rock.
The WalletHub study used official government data to rate 515 cities based on things such as population growth, job growth, poverty rate decrease, and working-age population growth.

When you see the long list of impressive accolades on our website, you realize that outsiders consistently recognize College Station for being among the nation’s best in a variety of areas.
Our business climate is terrific, which means plenty of good jobs and career possibilities. Our school system is also outstanding, and we’re a great place to raise a family. Even retirees want to spend their golden years here.
Apparently, Gogobot did its homework well.
College Station is an exciting place after all.
