The long-awaited ceremonial ribbon-cutting for the Fun for All Playground at Stephen C. Beachy Central Park will be from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28. The facility was completed last fall, but the ribbon-cutting was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We invite the community to come out for activities, giveaways, food, and fun. The ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Wheelchair access is available throughout the playground.
The concept and vision for the Fun for All Playground grew out of two local service clubs’ sincere desire to provide an all-access playground in Brazos County.
The local Rotary Club and Noon Lions Club launched the initial planning nine years ago, in conjunction with the City of College Station. Other service clubs joined the effort as interest grew, including additional Kiwanis, Lions, and Rotary Clubs, along with Coach Gary Blair Charities.
In August 2015, the ceremonial groundbreaking was celebrated, followed by the start of construction in 2018. The first phase was completed in 2019.
The committee then began fundraising, designing, and constructing the second phase, including the Carolyn & John David Crow Field, restrooms, musical play and sensory areas, wee go-rounds, and open space.
A generous donation from the M.S. Doss Foundation through the Brazos Valley Community Foundation – along with many other donors – helped construction begin in late 2019, and Phase 2 was finished last fall.
Fundraising is underway for the playground’s third and final phase that features a fishing pier, quiet area, and stick forest.
While the playground has been open since late last year, our community hasn’t been able to celebrate this stellar addition to our beautiful parks system.
Until now.
We encourage you to celebrate with us and enjoy this safe and unique playground with your entire family.
