When the weather turns cold and outside activities become limited, it can be challenging to find ways for kids to be active. The College Station Parks and Recreation Department’s Winter Youth Basketball league offers young athletes an opportunity to grow mentally, socially, and physically inside a warm gymnasium.
The league presents a fun and positive atmosphere for kids to learn about basketball and essential life skills such as sportsmanship, leadership, and communication.
We offer four divisions determined by the player’s age as of March 10: 6-7 Coed (6-7 years), 10U Boys/Girls (8-10 years), 12U Boys/Girls (10-12 years), 14U Boys/Girls (12-14 years).
Registration ends Dec. 12, with practices starting in early December and games beginning in January. You can register online, by calling 979-764-3486, or by stopping by our Central Park office at 1000 Krenek Tap Road. The cost is $80 for residents and $96 for non-residents.
Players can register for Monday/Wednesday/Saturday or Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday practices depending on their sex and age. Games are scheduled on weeknights between 6:30-9:30 p.m., with Saturday practices scheduled between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Activities are conducted at the Lincoln Recreation Center and College Station Independent School District gyms depending on availability.
The league plays a round-robin schedule, and teams are guaranteed at least eight games. Each player gets at least two quarters of playing time in each game in which they participate.
Volunteer Coaches Needed
One of the most significant ways to contribute is to volunteer as a coach – we need coaches for every age division. Without dedicated volunteers, our programs can’t grow and thrive. No experience is required, and we’ll help you along the way. Coaching a team is rewarding, and the impact on kids’ lives is immeasurable.
To apply as a volunteer coach, go to cstx.gov/sportsvolunteer. Volunteers must complete a background check.
