Play a vital role in your city government by serving on a committee, board or commission

As a civic-minded College Station resident, you probably vote on Election Day and write an occasional letter to the editor. You may even attend a few city council meetings.

But have you ever wondered how you could be more directly involved in local government decisions? Of course, you could always run for a place on the city council, but you don’t have to be a council member to make a genuine and meaningful difference.

How about volunteering to serve on one of the city’s 11 boards, committees, or commissions? These essential citizen groups have a vast influence in determining our community’s quality of life, and we have abundant opportunities for you to make a difference. If you live in College Station and are a registered voter, you meet the basic qualifications to serve.

Complete descriptions of city boards, commissions, and committees — along with an online application — are available at cstx.gov/committees. For more information or a paper application, contact the City Secretary’s Office at cso@cstx.gov or 979-764-3541.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2. The city council makes appointments in January. With your help, we can continue to make College Station one of the nation’s best places to live, work and play.
