As many as 15,000 people enjoyed the bright lights and holiday spirit-filled festivities of the annual Christmas in the Park event weekend on Friday and Saturday night at Stephen C. Beachy Central Park. The free event featured live music and performances, old-fashioned hayrides, a snow slide and snow pit, cookies, and hot chocolate. And, of course, photos with Santa and his reindeer.
The event began with the Jingle Bell Fun run for the second straight year, with about 250 participants. Then, Mayor John Nichols conducted a countdown to turn on the one million lights spread through the park, and families gathered in favorite locations for pictures.
Christmas in the Park began in 1984 and now features more than one million lights. The lights will continue to shine from 6-11 each night through Jan. 1.Â
