The Police Department has hosted the event with the library since 1999.
Transcript
Grace Hallowell:
What’s up College Station? My name is Grace Hollowell and today I’m joined with David Simmons from our police department. Hi David.
David Simmons:
Hi. How’s it going?
Grace Hallowell:
It’s going well. We are swinging into the Easter season here and I know you have a fun one to talk about today.
David Simmons:
Yeah, absolutely. So, we have on April 1 from 9:30 a.m.-noon, we have our Easter celebration that is for kids ages nine and under. We’re going to go out and have some Easter fun, an Easter egg hunt, and things of that nature.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, and this is at the George Bush Library and Museum?
David Simmons:
Yes. George Bush Library.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. It’s a beautiful location out there and a lot of space for a good egg hunt. What other activities will be involved?
David Simmons:
Yeah, so we’ve got, like I said, the Easter egg hunt, carnival games, we’ve got face painting, door prizes, balloon animals, complimentary refreshments and photos with the Easter Bunny.
Grace Hallowell:
Perfect. Yes, I know that’s always a big hit. All the families want their photos at the Easter Bunny, and so this event has been going on for quite some time in the community.
David Simmons:
Yeah, so CSPD has been doing it since 1982, just on their own, but in 1999 is when they partnered up with the George Bush Library and we’ve been doing it ever since.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, you guys do such a great job connecting with the community and building those relationships between y’all and the residents here, and this is just a fun way to celebrate the Easter season.
David Simmons:
Yeah, absolutely. Another thing is that our bomb squad created some Easter eggs that are going to have some sort of sound, like a beeping sound for our visually impaired kids. So, if this interests you or if you have any questions, contact Officer Snell at 979.764.2607 or wsnell@cstx.gov to sign up. They will have their own specific area where it’s safe for them to move around and get their Easter eggs as well. So we want to be able to include them.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, inclusion is such a big thing and sometimes if it doesn’t affect you, you don’t always think about it. So that’s a really great addition. So it’s starting at 9:30 on April 1st. April Fool’s Day.
David Simmons:
So it’s not an April Fool’s joke.
Grace Hallowell:
No.
David Simmons:
It’s legit. We’re going to be out there. We’re going to have tons of fun. So we want everybody in the community to come out, come join us, come talk to us, and just have some fun.
Grace Hallowell:
What is the cost of this event?
David Simmons:
It’s free, absolutely free. There’s no cost on anything.
Grace Hallowell:
Free is always better.
David Simmons:
Absolutely.
Grace Hallowell:
And because it is such a highly anticipated event, are there any road restrictions or parking restrictions in the area?
David Simmons:
Not that I’m aware of, but if you follow the College Station Police Department on Facebook and Twitter as well as the George Bush Library, we’ll put a map out on our social media at CSTX Police.
Grace Hallowell:
Well, is there anything else you can tell us about the event, any future events happening that you guys have coming up?
David Simmons:
I think the only other event would be our Family Fish event. I don’t know if we’re going to be doing any back to school things if we’re going to go past summertime. But other than that though, like I said, stay tuned on our Facebook page. We’re always trying to do events and be out there in the community.
Grace Hallowell:
Well perfect. Thank you so much for being here, David.
David Simmons:
Absolutely.
Grace Hallowell:
And that’s up.
