Grace Hallowell:
What’s Up, College Station? My name is Grace Hallowell, and today, I’m joined with Ms. Cheletia Johnson, and we have a very special guest today, Mr. Pat Cottontail. Hi guys.
Cheletia Johnson:
Hello. How are you doing?
Grace Hallowell:
I’m doing well. Thank you both so much for being here today.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes.
Grace Hallowell:
We have a very exciting episode of What’s Up today.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes, we do.
Grace Hallowell:
You’re here to talk about the Easter Extravaganza at the Lincoln Center.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes. Yes. It’s hard to believe it’s just next week, but the Lincoln Center will host its annual Easter Egg Extravaganza on Thursday, April 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. It’s for ages 10 and under, but all are welcome to come. Now, I don’t want people to be too disappointed, because it’s not the traditional egg hunt. So, every child participant will get a bag of eggs to take home with them and do their own hunt.
Grace Hallowell:
Sometimes that’s a little better, because those egg hunts can get a little chaotic.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes. Intense.
Grace Hallowell:
Intense.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes. Yes. This way everyone will be able to get eggs, along with some coloring sheets in their bag and some other little treats. We will have different activities and games that will be sponsored by different agencies within Brazos Valley, and also, other games. Just a time for everybody to have a great time, to get ready for the Easter weekend.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, and Mr. Pat Cottontail will be there for photos, correct?
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes, he will be there for photos with our photo booth inside one of the buildings. So make sure you look for the sign that says Photo Booth and it will direct you to where Mr. Pat Cottontail will be. Yes.
Grace Hallowell:
Well, in addition to the egg hunt, what else is going on at the Lincoln Center?
Cheletia Johnson:
Oh, it’s that time of season. The Parks Department is getting ready for a very exciting and fun summer. Summer registration starts April 3. That’s what we are getting ready for is summer programming. There is ton of things going on besides that. Our seniors have the Mother’s Day event getting ready to take place in May. Check out the website. Because I don’t want to miss anything. The website will tell you everything that’s going on at the Lincoln Center and within our department.
Grace Hallowell:
Right. So cstx.gov/lincolncenter.
Cheletia Johnson:
That is correct, yes. But the most important thing I want people to know, if you have a 16 year old, that’s looking for a job, we are hiring for the summer, so please go to the City of College Station website and apply for recreational assistant positions.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. It’s a very, very fun opportunity.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes, it is.
Grace Hallowell:
You get to have fun outside, and be that person for a child or whoever it may be.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes. Be that hero. Be that hero for the summer. Because we are looking for well-rounded staff, that’s willing to engage, to have fun, be compassionate, and just let that inner child come out and have fun, regardless of the temperature, because we never know what Texas is going to bring.
Grace Hallowell:
Right. That is for sure.
Cheletia Johnson:
So that’s what kind of people we’re looking for. 16 and up. Sorry, 15 year olds, but you got to be 16 to work for the City of College Station.
Grace Hallowell:
So taking it back to Easter, what is your favorite Easter memory from growing up? I know mine was maybe seeing a relative of yours, Mr. Pat Cottontail, and getting my photo with the Easter Bunny and dying eggs, stuff like that.
Cheletia Johnson:
I guess mine was just spending time, I grew up in the country, and so, spending time with my grandmother. Back then we dyed eggs the old-fashioned way. I don’t know if you had to do Easter speeches, but we used to have to do Easter speeches at church. So, that’s one of my favorite memories of getting in front of people and saying my speech, doing the egg hunt, and getting ready for that Sunday, because we always had a new dress, a hat, and a basket, shoes, everything. So those were some of my favorite memories of Easter.
Grace Hallowell:
Awesome. Well, yes, it’s a special time to connect with family and have fun and celebrate springtime.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes, definitely. Family, food, and fellowship, that’s what I call it. But as far as the Easter event at the Lincoln Center, I know there’s not a lot of parking at the Lincoln Center. So, the lot on Eleanor and Thompson will be open for parking, and make sure you park on the right side of the street. Do not park in front of the signs that says No Parking.
Grace Hallowell:
Right. Follow the traffic signs.
Cheletia Johnson:
Please. Please, and if there’s no games at the baseball field, the Wayne Smith Complex, guests will be able to park over there as well.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. Parking is very important.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes. Yes. So, the event, again, is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. I’m keeping my fingers for a great weather, but if not, the event still will take place inside.
Grace Hallowell:
All right. Rain or shine.
Cheletia Johnson:
Rain or shine, we are going to have the event.
Grace Hallowell:
Okay. Well, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Cheletia Johnson:
No. I just want people to come out, celebrate, get ready for the Easter weekend, check out the website, because the Parks Department is getting ready to start rocking and rolling and we want our community to get involved. So check out the website, go on Facebook, all the social media outlets, where the City of College Station is a part of. Click on it, like it, do whatever you need to do, so you can see what’s going on within the City of College Station.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. Stay informed.
Cheletia Johnson:
Definitely. Definitely.
Grace Hallowell:
Well, thank you so much for being here, and thank you, Pat Cottontail.
Cheletia Johnson:
Yes, thank you, Pat.
Grace Hallowell:
And that’s what’s up.
