Transcript
Grace Hallowell:
What’s up, College Station? I’m Grace Hallowell. And today, I’m here with Luis Perez, our recreation supervisor from our Parks and Recreation Department. Hi, Luis.
Luis Perez:
Hi, how are you?
Grace Hallowell:
I’m doing well. I know we have quite a few things to cover about Starlight, which is the most anticipated summer event for us here in College Station. And it starts this week, this Saturday.
Luis Perez:
Correct. This Saturday, we have Hayden Haddock who’s going to be our headliner, and then we have four more concerts after this Saturday. And gates open at 6:00, concert starts at 7:00. It’s free and open to the public.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. And I have never gone to Starlight. So if somebody has never gone before, what can they expect from this event?
Luis Perez:
So again, it’s free. People can bring coolers as long as it’s a relatively small cooler. They can bring a lawn chair. And they can park at the mall if they’d like and walk over. They can bring drinks if they’d like as long as it’s not in a glass container. We will have food trucks there for food as well.
Grace Hallowell:
And pets are not allowed.
Luis Perez:
Pets are not allowed.
Grace Hallowell:
Right. And why is that? I know we got some questions about people wondering why pets aren’t allowed.
Luis Perez:
Well, they’re supposed to stay on leashes. And sometimes there’s a challenge with pets staying on leashes.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, safety. And for Starlight, I know this event has been going on for years and years now, a couple decades, so it’s really exciting that we’re bringing it back. It’s warming up. The weather is, knock on wood, hopefully going to hold out. And Hayden Haddock, he’s an Aggie, correct?
Luis Perez:
That is correct. He’s a graduate. I believe he graduated this past December.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. So we love to celebrate our Aggies here. What else is going on at Wolf Pen?
Luis Perez:
So this coming Wednesday, we have a Food Truck Wednesday at the festival site at Wolf Pen Creek Park, and then we have an additional one the fourth Wednesday of the month. Right after the Starlight of the 29th of this month, we have a movie in the park, which is The Little Rascals at the amphitheater on the 30th.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. In the Food Truck Wednesdays, it’s a variety of different food trucks show up. So stay tuned to the City of College Station Facebook and Twitter where we’ll announce those there. And then for the movies in the park, I love The Little Rascals. That was a movie that I grew up with. It’s a good family-friendly event. The same rules apply with the coolers and everything.
Luis Perez:
Correct.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. And if people have questions about Starlight or would like to learn more about the artist and who’s going to be there, where can they go?
Luis Perez:
They can go to the park’s website or the Wolf Pen Creek website and it’ll have the lineup under the events.
Grace Hallowell:
What has been your favorite so far about getting ready for Starlight? I know it’s a stressful time, but it’s also a really fun time.
Luis Perez:
I think just choosing the artists and finding great artists. We try to have some local artists participate as well, but that’s the fun part for me, I guess. Yes.
Grace Hallowell:
Yeah, definitely. And there’s some fun cover bands. I know the Guns for Roses is very exciting. So yes, I encourage everybody to come out. Is there anything else you can share with us, Luis?
Luis Perez:
I think that’s pretty much it. Hopefully, everybody just comes and has a good time.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. Well, thank you so much. And that’s What’s Up.
