Grace Hallowell:
What’s up, College Station? I’m Grace Hallowell, and my guest today is Kari Williamson, our Senior Services Coordinator. Hi, Kari.
Kari Williamson:
Hi, how are you?
Grace Hallowell:
I’m doing well. We were just talking about how we are going into the fall season here and it’s an exciting time with hopefully some cooler weather-
Kari Williamson:
Yes.
Grace Hallowell:
… and some exciting events coming up. You’re here to tell us about the Senior Autumn Fest, which has been a loved program that happens every year in the fall, but there’s a few changes this year.
Kari Williamson:
Like you said, the weather’s so unpredictable in October, so we’ve decided to move the event indoors. It’ll be Friday, October 13th at Lincoln Recreation Center from 6:00 to 9:00. We’ll have food, a free burger meal, music, dancing. We’re going to have some sponsors that are doing games that you can walk through. We’re going to have door prizes. Really, there’s something for everyone.
Parking is a little limited at Lincoln Center, so we are going to have additional parking at the Wayne Smith Athletic Complex, and then we’ll be shuttling people back to Lincoln Center. If you just want to go ahead and park over at Wayne Smith and we’ll shuttle you in.
But it’s always an event that our seniors look forward to. It’s just going to look a little different this year.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, and sometimes change is a good thing, especially like you said, with the weather being so unpredictable.
Kari Williamson:
Yes.
Grace Hallowell:
You can still have a blast while inside.
Kari Williamson:
Right.
Grace Hallowell:
The Lincoln Center is a great facility for things like this.
Kari Williamson:
Yeah, and everything will be spaced out and you’ll be in the air conditioning.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes.
Kari Williamson:
I think it’s going to be great this year.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. In addition to the Fall Fest, all the normal programs are still happening for the seniors.
Kari Williamson:
Yes.
Grace Hallowell:
The senior calendar is something that you mentioned before that has a list of all the events going on for seniors. If anybody in the area is new, where can they find that?
Kari Williamson:
If you’re going online, you can go to CSTX.gov/seniors. You can view the calendar online there, or you can stop in any of our centers. That’s Meyer Senior and Community Center, Southwood Community Center, and Lincoln Center. And we have calendars at the desk for you to pick up. Our staff is willing to help you and with any questions, can show you around. But we offer a wide variety of programming in all three places.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. The senior programming, some of it requires a senior membership. What does that entail?
Kari Williamson:
If you’re a resident in College Station, you pay $27 for a whole year. If you live outside of College Station, it’s 32 for a whole year. We get you signed up, you get a pass, every time you come in, you swipe in and you get to play games or whatever you’re there to do.
Grace Hallowell:
Right. Enjoy all the fun. Back to the Senior Autumn Fest, since it is kind of around Halloween, are costumes encouraged?
Kari Williamson:
Yes. Definitely.
Grace Hallowell:
Okay.
Kari Williamson:
Come on out in your Halloween costume. I know that’s always been popular with everyone. They have some of the best costumes. We’ll be dressed up, have a free meal, dancing, and it’ll be a good time.
Grace Hallowell:
All right. Yes. If anybody has any questions, where can they find out more?
Kari Williamson:
Like I said, you could go to our website, CSTX.gov/seniors, or you can just stop by any of the centers and we’d be glad to help you.
Grace Hallowell:
Well, thanks for joining me today.
Kari Williamson:
Yeah, thanks for having me.
Grace Hallowell:
And that’s what’s up.
