The College Station City Council approved an ordinance in March prohibiting large commercial vehicles and trailers from parking on city streets and alleys to address residents’ concerns about safety, traffic flow, and overall aesthetics.
Enforcement was delayed until Oct. 1 to ensure a smooth transition and allow appropriate public notification and education through the city’s communication channels, signage, windshield flyers, message boards, and direct outreach to the trucking community.
A commercial motor vehicle includes any vehicle, trailer, or combination for transporting goods or people. The vehicle must weigh over 26,001 pounds or have a combination weight exceeding 26,001 pounds, including towed units weighing over 10,000 pounds.
If you own or operate a commercial vehicle, it’s essential to understand the ordinance to ensure compliance and avoid citations. You might also find exceptions for your specific situation.
The ordinance includes practical exceptions to accommodate essential services:
- Authorized public works vehicles.
- Vehicles actively loading or unloading goods or passengers.
- Repair or maintenance vehicles servicing nearby properties.
