The City of College Station is embarking on a crucial journey to evaluate and update its Comprehensive Plan through the Five-Year Update process. The initiative is a checkpoint to assess the City’s progress over the past five years, identify areas for improvement, and adjust goals to align with the community’s evolving needs.

Your feedback through a community survey, open house, and other participation channels is essential and can influence College Station’s direction for the next five years and beyond.

The Five-Year Update follows a structured evaluation that ensures the Comprehensive Plan remains a relevant and effective tool for guiding growth and development. The process includes:

1. Community Input/Stakeholder Engagement

Public participation is at the update’s heart. Residents, businesses, and organizations can share their insights on the city’s progress and suggest priorities by participating in surveys, workshops, and focus groups. Your voice helps shape policies and actions that directly impact daily life in our community.

2. Existing Conditions

A foundational step in the update process is assessing the city’s status and trends over the last five years. The 2024 Existing Conditions Report examines these key aspects:

  • Local demographics and economic trends
  • Land use and development patterns
  • Transportation and public facilities
  • Environmental and natural resource conditions

The comprehensive analysis provides the data needed to make informed decisions about future planning and development.

3. Implementation Progress Report

The implementation report thoroughly reviews the City’s progress in executing the action items outlined in the Comprehensive Plan. The last five annual reports are analyzed to determine successes, challenges, and areas requiring further attention. The findings ensure accountability and guide future priorities.

4. Plan Evaluation and Appraisal

City staff collaborates with departments, boards, and commissions to compile a Plan Evaluation and Appraisal Report in partnership with a Comprehensive Plan Evaluation Committee. The report serves as a check-up on the Comprehensive Plan, identifying effective strategies and necessary modifications based on evolving community needs.

5. Plan Modifications and Updates

Based on the evaluation and supplemental reports, updates to maps, policies, and strategies will be proposed to ensure the Comprehensive Plan aligns with current and future goals. The modifications will enhance the City’s approach to growth management, mobility, economic development, and public services.

A Roadmap for the Future

College Station’s Comprehensive Plan is built on a shared vision of fostering a vibrant, forward-thinking, and knowledge-based community, offering residents and visitors a high quality of life. The plan is structured around these goals:

  • Distinctive Places – Creating vibrant districts, attractive neighborhoods, and conserving natural areas.
  • Strong Neighborhoods – Promoting viable, diverse, and attractive neighborhoods.
  • Prosperous Economy – Supporting job growth and economic diversification.
  • Engaging Spaces – Enhancing parks, arts, and cultural amenities.
  • Integrated Mobility – Improving safe, multimodal transportation systems.
  • Exceptional Services – Providing high-quality municipal services and facilities.
  • Managed Growth – Ensuring responsible development aligned with infrastructure capabilities.
  • Collaborative Partnerships – Strengthening coordination with local institutions and organizations.

    HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
