As the Texas heat moves in, there’s no better place to be than the water. Whether you’re hitting the local pool, the lake, or the beach, swimming is the heartbeat of a great summer — offering families a fun, healthy way to stay active and make lasting memories.
But water activities carry real risks, particularly for young children and inexperienced swimmers. Learning to swim isn’t just extracurricular fun; it’s an essential skill that keeps your loved ones safe. Our programs are designed for all ages and experience levels, building the technique and confidence needed for a lifetime of water safety.
Things to Know
- Start Early: It’s never too soon! We offer programs for infants and toddlers to introduce basic water safety and comfort.
- Ages 1–4 are Critical: Early development helps children learn to follow directions and master lifesaving techniques, such as finding the edge of the pool if they fall in.
- The Caregiver Connection: You are our best partner. Watching lessons and practicing skills outside of class reinforces what they learn and fast-tracks their confidence.
- Life Jackets Over Toys: Water wings and inflatable toys are for play, not protection. For boating or sports, always use a properly fitted, Coast Guard-approved life vest.
- Confidence Through Instruction: Supervised, gradual instruction helps reduce fear and creates a positive relationship with the water.
- Supervision Never Stops: Even confident swimmers need a water watcher. Stay attentive and keep the distractions away from the water.

Registration for City of College Station swim lessons is open for ages 6 months and older. We also offer private and adaptive instruction to ensure everyone in our community can thrive in the water.
Pro Tip: Not sure which level to choose? Review our Swim Lesson Handbook. If the student can already perform all the skills listed for a specific class, move up to the next level. If not, that level is the perfect place to start!
