Time spent outdoors often becomes the backdrop for our most cherished moments. A morning stroll through a park, a weekend game on the field, or a quiet afternoon under the shade of a tree — these seemingly small moments collectively shape the heart and soul of a community.
Throughout July, we’re celebrating Park and Recreation Month to recognize the role these spaces play in our daily lives. Led by the National Recreation and Park Association, this year’s theme, “The Power Of,” highlights how parks and recreation champion connection, health, and an elevated quality of life.
In College Station, that presence is woven directly into our community’s fabric through:
- 57 beautifully developed parks and 8 undeveloped natural areas.
- Nearly 1,900 acres of dedicated parkland.
- A vibrant network of trails, playgrounds, pools, athletic fields, community centers, and a nature center.
These spaces are carefully designed to create meaningful opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities to stay active, engaged, and connected. Together, they bring “The Power Of” to life every day:
- The Power of Connection: Our parks and programs build bridges and strengthen community ties. Whether it’s a casual chat at a neighborhood park or joining an organized activity, shared spaces bring us closer together.
- The Power of Play: Play is essential for development, creativity, and lifelong wellness. From modern playgrounds to open green spaces and premier athletic facilities, we offer endless ways for everyone to stay active.
- The Power of Community: Strong communities grow through shared experiences. Local events, seasonal gatherings, and public spaces provide a welcoming stage for neighbors to connect and build a true sense of belonging.
- The Power of Nature: Our parks and natural areas offer a peaceful escape for rest, exploration, and appreciation of the environment, encouraging outdoor recreation while supporting the stewardship of our local resources.
- The Power of Belonging: Through inclusive design and adaptive programming, we ensure our facilities are welcoming and accessible to all. Every resident deserves to feel right at home in our community spaces.
- The Power of Well-Being: Parks are a cornerstone of physical and mental health. Providing spaces for movement, relaxation, and time in nature directly boosts the overall quality of life for our citizens.
