Whether you’re sending your children back to class, settling into a new apartment, or welcoming a new Aggie to College Station, a little preparation goes a long way toward a stress-free transition. These friendly reminders can help you start the semester safely and smoothly.
Slow Down in School Zones
Traffic around schools increases significantly as students head back to campus. Help protect students, crossing guards, bicyclists, and fellow drivers by keeping these tips in mind:
- Obey posted school zone speed limits.
- Watch carefully for pedestrians and bicyclists.
- Put your phone away and eliminate distractions.
- Be patient during busy morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
Taking a few extra moments behind the wheel helps keep our community safer.
Streamline Your Trash and Recycling
Back-to-school season often means moving, cleaning, and unpacking. Whether you’re settling into a new place or clearing out extra clutter, following collection guidelines helps ensure your service runs without delay:
- Place your carts at the curb by 8 a.m. on your collection day.
- Leave at least four feet of clearance around each cart.
- Make sure all trash fits inside the cart with the lid completely shut.
- Place oversized items, such as furniture, separately for bulk pickup.

Park Responsibly
Heavy traffic during arrival and dismissal times can make parking challenging. Responsible parking keeps traffic moving smoothly and ensures visibility for pedestrians.
Avoid these common parking violations:
- Blocking driveways, sidewalks, or fire hydrants.
- Parking too close to intersections or crosswalks.
- Parking on lawns or landscaped areas.
- Double-parking or stopping in active travel lanes during drop-off and pick-up.
Always observe posted signs and follow campus traffic routes to help everyone get where they need to go safely and keep traffic moving smoothly during busy times.

Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to study, research materials, or your next favorite read, the Larry J. Ringer Library offers resources for all ages. You can sign up for a virtual e-card online or visit the library to receive a physical card and explore books, digital media and educational programs.
