What does staying active look like after 55? Maybe it’s learning a new line dance, challenging a friend to a game of 42, creating something with your hands, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation.

National Senior Citizens Day on Friday, Aug. 21, is a great opportunity to celebrate older adults in our community and discover the many ways to stay active, learn something new and connect with others through College Station Parks and Recreation.

Senior programs are available to ages 55 and older at the Meyer Senior & Community Center, Southwood Community Center and Lincoln Recreation Center. Activities are offered throughout the week, making it easy to find something that fits your interests and schedule.

From fitness and dance to games, arts and crafts, technology and social activities, there are plenty of ways to get involved. More than just activities, these programs provide opportunities to meet new people, build friendships and spend time with others in the community.

Getting Involved Is Easy

Adults 55 and older need a Senior Pass to participate in senior programming at all three facilities.

Annual Senior Pass

Residents • $27
Non-residents • $34

Daily Senior Pass

Residents • $3
Non-residents • $5

Annual passes are valid for one calendar year from the date of purchase. Passes can be purchased online, in person at any of the three facilities or by calling 979-764-2670.

Once you have your pass, check the monthly calendar or activity guide and find something that interests you. You don’t have to be an expert to participate, and many activities welcome beginners.

Celebrate With Bingo

What better way to celebrate National Senior Citizens Day than with a little friendly competition? Join us for the National Senior Citizen Day Bingo Bash on Friday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Recreation Center. Enjoy bingo, light refreshments and chances to win prizes. Admission is free, and registration isn’t required. It’s a fun, easy way to take your first step into senior programming and meet others in the community.

National Senior Citizens Day is a reminder that staying active and connected can look different for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a new hobby, a fun activity or simply a place to spend time with friends, College Station Parks and Recreation has something for you.
