Which furry Parks Pal will you adopt?

By Kelli Nesbitt, Parks & Recreation Marketing Coordinator

The College Station Parks & Recreation Department and Brazos Valley Marine Corps League have rescued 1,120 Parks Pals that need a home. That’s 272 dogs, 291 cats, 290 rabbits, and 267 unicorns, to be exact.

Typical Parks Pals are sad balls of fur until someone adopts them, names them, loves them, and takes them on adventures. You know you’ve always wanted one.

Here’s your chance — and they’re free.

A drive-thru Parks Pal Adopt-A-Thon will be Saturday, Aug. 15, from 8 a.m.-noon, at the Meyer Senior & Community Center. Cars will enter off of Colgate Drive and exit by taking a right onto Dartmouth Street. Each Parks Pal will be individually bagged with a certificate of adoption, 30-day adventure log, and coloring sheet.

Adopters are encouraged to keep their Parks Pal active and healthy by participating in at least 10 minutes of activity for 30 days. Those who return a completed 30-day adventure log by Nov. 30 will receive one free pool entry for the 2021 pool season. Logs will also be placed into a drawing for one free Family Swim Pass for up to five family members.

Here are some examples, but you probably have your own creative ideas:

  • Go for a walk.
  • Play a sport or a board game.
  • Draw a picture or color.
  • Explore the outdoors or play in a park.
  • Ride a bike, skateboard, etc.
  • Read a book.
  • Work on a puzzle.
  • Sing a song or play an instrument.
  • Build a fort.
  • Complete a chore or help a family member with one.

Submit your log one of three ways:

1. ONLINE: cstx.gov/ParksPal

2. IN-PERSON: College Station Parks and Recreation Department, Stephen C. Beachy Park, 1000 Krenek Tap Road (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.)

3. BY MAIL: City of College Station, Parks & Recreation Department, P.O. Box 9960, College Station, TX 77842

While supplies last, remaining Parks Pals will be available for adoption beginning Monday, Aug. 17, at the Stephen C. Beachy Central Park Office on weekdays between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. If you call 979-764-3486 when you arrive, we’ll bring them out for curbside adoption.

Special thanks to the Brazos Valley Marine Corps League for providing all of the stuffed animals. Parks Pals are perfect for kids, adults, or anyone young at heart. What kind of Parks Pal will you adopt?
