Your kids can learn teamwork and basic skills in the city’s winter youth basketball leagues

By Casey Prescott, Athletics Supervisor

The Parks and Recreation Department’s Winter Basketball league helps kids ages 6-14 learn teamwork and basic skills while growing mentally, socially, and physically. The league is for new and experienced players.

Our league had more than 400 players last year, and we have the capacity for even more this season. The player’s age as of March 10, 2023, determines their division. Here’s a look at the divisions and days of play:

Activities are conducted at the Lincoln Recreation Center and College Station Independent School District gyms, depending on availability. The league plays a round-robin schedule and concludes with a tournament.

The pre-draft workout for Monday/Wednesday participants is on Nov. 28 and for Tuesday/Thursday participants is on Nov. 29. The season begins with two weeks of practice in December, with no practices scheduled from Dec. 19-Jan. 3.

Registration ends Nov. 27. You can also register by calling 979-764-3486, or by stopping by our Central Park office at 1000 Krenek Tap Road. The cost is $80 for residents and $96 for non-residents. Jerseys are provided, and spots are limited.

Volunteer Coaches Needed

Teach basketball fundamentals and help kids develop skills while learning the timeless values of hard work, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Experience isn’t required, and we provide the resources you need for a fun and successful season. Parents who coach automatically get their children on their teams. Each head coach is allowed one assistant coach.

You can also apply by calling 979-764-3486. You must be at least 18 years old and complete a background check.
