Grace Hallowell:
What’s up College Station? I’m Grace Hallowell and today I’m joined with Casey Barone, the events coordinator at Visit College Station.
Hi, Casey.
Casey Barone:
Hey, Grace.
Grace Hallowell:
It’s always a pleasure having y’all on the show. You guys bring the fun to College Station and we have an exciting event coming up in Northgate during the day, not at nighttime, the Spring Homegrown at Northgate.
Casey Barone:
Yes, that’s our Spring Homegrown at Northgate event. We do these twice a year. We do one in the spring and one in the fall. It’s kind of to help with it being Family Weekend at A&M, so it’s the last day of Family Weekend and it just gives them a little something extra to do before they head home.
Grace Hallowell:
For this spring one, what do you guys have going on? What vendors will be there and is there a theme for the event this year?
Casey Barone:
It’s just a spring event, a spring, I guess, theme you could say. It’s a family-friendly event and like you said, it kind of gives Northgate this different light, a different feel. We’re bringing it during the day, so we will have all kinds of stuff going on out there. We will have over 50 vendors that you can shop from and really, whatever you’re wanting or needing, somebody’s going to have it. It’s right before Mother’s Day, so it’s a great opportunity to maybe find something for your mom or your grandmother or whoever. Then we will have seven different food trucks, picnic tables, live music, a bounce house for the kids, and face painting and balloon making so much to do out there, as well as eating at some of those other places on Northgate, like the Dixie Chicken, the Backyard, and those sorts of places.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, I know it’s a free event also, which there is so much to do and experience for a free event. I think it’s so fun and this is again, a returning event, so if you haven’t checked it out or have been wanting to, definitely go ahead and check it out. What is the date and time for this event?
Casey Barone:
It is Sunday, April 14th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and it is, it’s so much fun. If it’s beautiful weather, it’s just a great way to spend a Sunday after church or just to get out for a little bit and enjoy the day. There will be free parking at the Northgate parking garage so you don’t have to worry about where to park, how to pay, and that sort of thing. We provide that for you and actually parking is free until 5:00 PM that day and so just come out, there’s so much to do, we’re really excited. It’s something that I really look forward to twice a year just to bring the community together as far as students at A&M, families, residents, anybody visiting. It’s just a really great day and I really do enjoy this event.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. There is a special perk, correct?
Casey Barone:
Yes, so the first 100 people that show up visit the Visit College Station table, they will receive a Homegrown at Northgate bag, which looks like this. A great shopping bag when you’re shopping around and finding all of those really great gifts or things for yourself or whichever. They’re actually filled with some goodies from establishments around town as well.
Grace Hallowell:
Where can people find out more about this event?
Casey Barone:
They can go to our website at visitcstx.gov to find out more information about Spring Homegrown at Northgate.
Grace Hallowell:
All right, well thank you so much for joining me today, Casey.
Casey Barone:
Thank you, Grace.
Grace Hallowell:
And that’s what’s up.
