Grace Hallowell:
What’s Up, College Station? I’m Grace Hallowell, and today I’m joined by Trey Reeves, our marketing coordinator over at our Parks and Recreation department. Hi, Trey.
Trey Reeves:
Hey, thanks for having me.
Grace Hallowell:
You’re welcome. It has been a little while since we’ve had Parks on the show, but that does not mean that there’s not a whole bunch of things going on for y’all.
Trey Reeves:
Yeah, I know. A college town, it seems like the summer would be a slow season, but that’s the exact opposite for us. We are ramping up, really excited to get the summer season started.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. And that all starts with our new Summer Parks Guide. Those have come out recently. And we have an exciting upgrade to that, is now we can offer a digital version as well.
Trey Reeves:
Yeah. So in addition to our traditional paper version, we have a digital copy that you can access 24/7 online, and our public comment team did a fantastic job setting up all the links to go directly to our registration. So hopefully it’s a lot easier for all of our users to see everything that we have and then quickly register for anything that they want to do.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, I know I was playing around with it a little bit, and it’s so easy to click on a program. The link directly on the digital copy will take you right to where you’re supposed to register. And speaking of registration, everything is open for the summer now.
Trey Reeves:
Yeah, everything is open from our aquatics programs, swim lessons, swim team, to our summer day camps for kids, to all of our programs for adults as well. We have truly something for everybody, and it’s all in this guide that you can browse whenever you want.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. And speaking of aquatics, it is going into Memorial Day, coming up here soon, and I know our pools are open for the holiday for you to enjoy.
Trey Reeves:
Yeah. Memorial Day weekend is our big grand opening, so Adamson Lagoon will be open that Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. I think that’s May 26th if I’m remembering my days right. And then from there on out, it’s Monday to Friday, 1:00 to 7:00, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 7:00. And Sydney Halloran will open that following week. So you can check out all those hours at CSTX.gov/pools and see the holiday openings and closures as well.
Grace Hallowell:
Like we said, there’s so much going on. We have a lot to cover. The Starlight Music Series is underway as well. That’s coming up here shortly on the 18th. And there’s information in the guide on that. Our summer camp programs are starting up for people to register for, and that’s a really great way to keep the kids active and during the break.
Trey Reeves:
Yeah, absolutely. So we know that they need tons of stuff to do all summer long because they’re not in school, and you need to get them out of the house. So really, whatever your child is interested in, we have something from our nature camps at the Gary Halter Nature Center. We have a dinosaur camp. We have nature walk experiences. We have all kinds of fun outdoorsy stuff there. If your kid’s more of an inside person, that’s totally awesome too. We have a ton of fun things like photography, cooking, all kinds of options at the Lincoln Recreation Center.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. I know I was a nature camp kid myself growing up, so that’s always exciting. But we have more programs for more than just kids. We have stuff for adults too, as well as our seniors. So let’s talk a little bit about if you’re new to the area and you want to get involved in these programs, what do you need to do? What are the steps you need to take?
Trey Reeves:
Yeah, really it starts with just exploring our membership options. So we have a membership for our recreation centers for adults, and it’s really one of the most affordable entertainment and activity options in our entire area because it starts at just $16 for residents, $18 for non-residents. It gets you into open gyms if you like basketball, pickleball. If you need a space to work out, all that stuff is available with our memberships at the Lincoln Recreation Center. And for our seniors, 55 and up, it is a fantastic deal with a yearly membership. There are hundreds of programs every single month that you can get into. Just one flat fee, and you get into everything from quilting to dominoes to board games to classes that can teach you about Medicare and all kinds of important things.
Grace Hallowell:
That’s a good point about the fitness. I just read an article that Planet Fitness is raising their membership fee. So their $10 membership is no longer $10, and I think our membership is going to be cheaper than that.
Trey Reeves:
We can beat that, yeah.
Grace Hallowell:
It’s a great option. Okay. So with the guide, where can people access that digital version?
Trey Reeves:
It is on pretty much every page of our website at CSTX.gov/parks. We try to hyperlink every single appropriate section to the appropriate page. So if you click on Lincoln Rec Center, you’re going to see the Lincoln Rec Center stuff. If you click on special events, you’ll see the special events. Our team does a great job with that here at the city. So yeah, you can browse the whole guide. It’s right there on the homepage as well. You can’t miss it.
Grace Hallowell:
And then if they would like a physical copy, where can they find one of those?
Trey Reeves:
Those are distributed all around town. We have them at doctor’s offices. We have them at coffee shops. We have them at most city offices so far. We’ll work on getting them to the rest of them throughout this week. Or you can just stop by our Central Park office and we’d be happy to give you a copy.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, I know I saw one at the nail salon over the weekend, and I was excited to browse through that even though I’ve looked through it already, but okay. Is there anything else you can share with us today, Trey, about what you guys have going on?
Trey Reeves:
If you’re looking for anything to do, I’m sure that we have something that you would love to enjoy, and you can make it a great summer to remember.
Grace Hallowell:
All right, well thank you so much for joining me today.
Trey Reeves:
Absolutely. Thanks for having me.
Grace Hallowell:
And that’s What’s Up.
