Grace Hallowell:
What’s up College Station? I’m Grace Hallowell, and today I’m joined by Markeesha Watson, the Assistant Center Supervisor over at our Lincoln Recreation Center.
We have exciting programs throughout the month of January at the Lincoln Center.
Markeesha Watson:
Yes, we do. We have a couple of things going on to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, starting off this weekend with our Fit Fest. That’s on Saturday, January the 11th, from 11:00 to 2:00. We’ll have brief demos, about 15 minutes, from our different programs that are a part of our adult fitness. We’ll have a demo from Zumba, Zumba Gold, Foreversize, then we’ll have a boot camp. It’s just promoting our adult fitness, promoting our fitness room that we have at the Lincoln Center. So we’re kicking off the month with that.
Then we’re rolling right into our MLK, our annual event, the following Friday. That is January the 17th, from 6:30 to 8:30, we’ll have our MLK musical celebration. The theme this year is Harmony of Change. We’ll have various artists that will be out singing and dancing. Our headliner this year is Unity of Navasota. Of course, they are from Navasota. And we’ll have other uplifting choirs there just to celebrate the spirit of Dr. King’s work.
Grace Hallowell:
This is the 41st annual MLK celebration that y’all have done.
Markeesha Watson:
Yes it is. Right. And then, also, we’ll end the month with a collaboration that we’re doing with the workforce. We’re going to have a career fair. And that’s on Wednesday, January the 29th, from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. All of these events are very fitting for the New Year. And then the career fair, too, a lot of people oftentimes are setting goals for their career or finding a new job.
Markeesha Watson:
Right. You don’t have to register for them. You can just show up to participate. For the career fair, there’ll be various jobs from the local area here. Please just stop by if you’re interested in looking for a job, or if you know someone that’s interested in looking for a job. That would be a great opportunity to come and see what’s offered at the job fair.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. Even before then, or after, stop by the Lincoln Center. Check things out. You guys have a ton of brochures and programming. You can even watch the programs if you’re not sure if you’d want to join. Where can people find out more information, apart from stopping in?
Markeesha Watson:
Apart from stopping in, you could visit our website at cstx.gov/LincolnCenter. You can also find the Parks Guide, which will show everything that the department has going on for the next couple of months. There’s something there for everyone in the community to tap into.
Grace Hallowell:
Well, thank you so much for joining me today.
Markeesha Watson:
Thank you. Thank you for having me.
