The City of College Station is embarking on a journey to create a shared vision and plan for the Northgate area, one of our city’s most dynamic and cherished places. Developing the Northgate Small Area Plan allows residents, businesses, and stakeholders to come together to envision the future of this iconic part of our community.
The comprehensive planning initiative is designed to guide growth and development in the Northgate area. The plan focuses on supporting businesses, enhancing pedestrian-friendly spaces, and celebrating Northgate’s unique character so it remains a thriving hub for residents, visitors, and students.
The plan’s key areas include:
- Local Business Support –Strategies to help businesses flourish and attract new opportunities.
- Walkability and Livability – Creating pedestrian-friendly streets and public spaces to enhance mobility and safety.
- Cultural Preservation – Honoring Northgate’s rich history while welcoming modern innovations.
- Community Engagement – Ensuring the voices of all stakeholders are heard and incorporated into the planning process.
Does Northgate Need a Plan?
Northgate is more than just a place to work, live, or visit –it’s an essential part of College Station’s identity and holds a special place in the hearts of many. However, as the city continues to grow and evolve, so do the needs of the Northgate area. The plan will ensure that future development enhances the district’s unique character while addressing traffic, safety, and sustainability challenges.
Get Involved
The success of the Northgate Small Area Plan depends on the community’s active participation. We are kicking off the planning process with a public meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at City Hall. You can connect with city planners and fellow community members while learning about the plan’s goals and timeline and sharing your ideas, concerns, and vision.
We believe the best ideas come from the people who know Northgate best. Whether you’re a resident, business owner, student, or visitor, your input will help shape a plan that reflects the community’s values and aspirations.
Following the kick-off meeting, the city will continue to gather feedback through surveys and public stakeholder committee meetings. Updates on the plan’s progress will be shared regularly, ensuring transparency and continued engagement.
