The City of College Station invites residents to share their ideas and help guide the future of the Midtown area at a community workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting will focus on the Midtown area and the City-owned 200-acre parcel, giving citizens the chance to shape development and investment priorities.

This isn’t just another meeting; it’s a chance to roll up your sleeves and help determine how this part of the city develops. City staff will set the stage with a brief presentation about the area’s history, zoning, and past planning efforts.

Then, it’s your turn.

Interactive stations will give you the chance to ask questions, learn about ongoing projects, and provide input. Want to see how your ideas might fit into the bigger picture? You can participate in mapping exercises to draw your vision for the Midtown area and the 200-acre property. Whether it’s public spaces, roads, signage, or other enhancements, your ideas matter.

The City Council requested the workshop as a community-centered planning approach to understand what residents value, the improvements they seek, and how the area can best serve College Station in the years ahead.

Whether you’ve walked these streets for a few years or are new to the neighborhood, this is your chance to help shape Midtown’s future. All you need to bring to the conversation are your ideas and curiosity.

We look forward to seeing you on Nov. 18.

Based on my 30 years of living in College Station, I envision a heart-shaped lake connected to the existing small pond, with a gentle hill formed from the soil excavated during the lake’s creation. A rose-covered arch atop the hill would beautifully highlight the heart shape, making it perfect for romantic dates or wedding photos. A pedestrian walkway would circle the lake, while an arched bridge would span the water. Rental pedal boats—ideal for families—would provide a fun, relaxing activity. Colorful leafy and flowering trees, such as maples and cherry trees, would add vibrant hues in spring and fall, and in winter, visitors could enjoy watching migratory birds from the north.
