Transcript
Grace Hallowell:
What’s up, College Station? I’m Grace Hallowell, and today I’m joined by Jo Beth Wolfe, the sales manager for Visit College Station. Jo Beth, how are you doing?
Jo Beth Wolfe:
Could I be any more excited to be here, Grace?
Grace Hallowell:
I am very excited you’re here. We have a recurring event that you guys put on for 30 years now, the Meeting Planners Showcase, and that’s coming up this week.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
That’s right. So, on Tuesday, March 19th, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, our team will put on the Meeting Planners Showcase. It’s a one-stop shop for people who are planning events. We have about 40 vendors, local hospitality partners in the community, who are going to exhibit at the show. And so we’re inviting the public to come out, and to have face-to-face time, and learn about either new businesses, or new experiences or activations in the community that they can use to enhance their events that they’re planning.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes. And if you couldn’t tell by our intro there, this year’s theme is the TV show Friends, which I grew up with, I’m sure you grew up with too. It’s a lot of people’s… It was one of the biggest shows on TV.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
Yes.
Grace Hallowell:
So, this is all taking place at the newly renovated Hilton, which I had the chance to stop by not too long ago, and it is beautiful in there.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
It really is, they’ve done a great job. So, it gives us the chance also to show it off, and let people get an idea and a feel for what they can do. You’re right, it’s a Friends theme this year, we’ve had a lot of fun really infusing that into the entire event. So, we’ll have our own Cafe Perk, one of a kind. You’ll have to come and see it, and experience and hang out for the day, just soak it all in, have a specialty coffee with us, and learn a lot about what you can do in College Station.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, and there is some special perks for the first few hundred people that are there, correct?
Jo Beth Wolfe:
That’s right. So, we had some custom tote bags made, and you’re going to want to get one of these. As you go through the vendor show, some of our vendors will have brochures or collateral or goodies to pick up, and so we wanted to provide the first 200 people with a tote bag to put them in.
Grace Hallowell:
And this is a free event, correct?
Jo Beth Wolfe:
That’s right.
Grace Hallowell:
And what is the date and time? I don’t think we mentioned that earlier, we were having so much fun reminiscing about Friends.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
So, it’s March 19th, that’s Tuesday, March 19th, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the afternoon, and it’s come and go. We would like you to RSVP on our website, but if you get up that morning and decide that you can make it and you haven’t, please just come on by. We’ll check you in when you get there.
Grace Hallowell:
Awesome. And after the Meeting Planners Showcase, I know we had Casey on the show not too long ago to talk about the Hang Out & Tune In events, and there’ll be another one right after the showcase.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
That’s right, we decided why not make a full day of it? So, once Meeting Planners Showcase ends, we are going to go up to the rooftop bar at the Hilton, and kick off Hang Out & Tune In for the evening. People can go right after the showcase, or if they come earlier in the day, they’re welcome to come back at 5:00. We’ll be at the rooftop enjoying some live music, and some snacks, and some great views up there.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, it is beautiful up there. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I visited, but it’s a great little spot up there.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
That’s right. So, let’s hope for great weather next week.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, fingers crossed.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
And so we can all go up there and network some more. A lot of event planners know each other in town, and they can learn things from each other, as well as the vendors. So, it’s just a great time to socialize within the industry, have some great conversations, and make some new friends.
Grace Hallowell:
Yes, and it’s a great opportunity too for people who are new to the event planning industry, and might not know where to start with planning events.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
Absolutely, just get in there.
Grace Hallowell:
A lot of good information.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
Yes.
Grace Hallowell:
Okay, so where can people find out more if they’re curious?
Jo Beth Wolfe:
So, if they’ll go to our website, which is visit.cstx.gov, there’s information on the home page. We are also sharing information on our social media channels, so be sure to check there for the latest up-to-date information, schedule for the day. And then give us a call for any questions. You can reach us at 764-2625, and we’ll see you at the show.
Grace Hallowell:
All right, we’ll see you there. Thanks for joining me today, Jo Beth.
Jo Beth Wolfe:
Thank you, Grace.
Grace Hallowell:
And that’s What’s Up.
