Live Blog: Thursday’s city council meeting (June 23)

Welcome to our live blog from the College Station City Council's regular meeting on Thursday, June 23. It's not the official minutes. 

The meeting is streamed live on Suddenlink Channel 19 and cstx.gov/cstv19. To join online, go to Zoom or call 888-475-4499 and enter webinar number 967 2839 3278. If the call-in number isn't working, access will be limited to Zoom. 

6:14 p.m. 

The meeting has started.  The council took no action from its executive session. Councilman John Nichols is participating by teleconference.

6:18 p.m.

Hear Visitors

No one spoke during Hear Visitors, when citizens may address the council on any item that does not appear on the posted agenda.

6:55 p.m.

Boulevard Landscaping

The council discussed additional landscaping on Texas Avenue and possibly creating other landscaped boulevards around town.

7:23 p.m.

Off-Leash Ordinance

The council discussed the city's existing dog off-leash ordinance and its enforcement.

7:48 p.m.

Nature & Wildlife Preserve

The council discussed adding Nature & Wildlife Preserve as an additional layer of parkland management.

7:56 p.m.

Consent Agenda

The council voted unanimously to approve the entire consent agenda, which consists of ministerial or housekeeping items:

8:43 p.m. 

Barron Road Land Use, Rezoning

After a public hearing, the council voted unanimously to approve a request to change the land use from Suburban Residential to Neighborhood Commercial for about five acres at 2354 Barron Road near the Victoria Avenue intersection.

In a separate vote, the council unanimously changed the zoning from Rural to Planned Development District. The changes allow small-scale neighborhood commercial uses.

9:31 p.m. 

Parkland Dedication

After a public hearing, the council voted unanimously to approve changes to the city's park zone map along with parkland dedication appeals, credits, and fees.

9:35 p.m. 

Parks & Recreation Standards of Care

After a public hearing, the council voted unanimously to approve standards of care for the City's Parks and Recreation Department's elementary age (5-13) youth recreation programs.

9:43 p.m.

Mayor Mooney adjourned the meeting after the council discussed its calendar, items of community interest, committee and board reports, and future agenda items.

The council meets again at a special meeting on Tuesday, July 12, for its first look at the city’s proposed FY 23 budget. The next regular meeting is Thursday, July 14.
