CS named nation’s sixth most affordable college town

collegestation-300x200The impressive list of national accolades for College Station continues to grow.

Texas A&M today announced that Simple Dollar, an online publication that offers financial guidance, has named College Station as the sixth most affordable college town in the nation.

“It’s such a privilege to be home to a world-class university,” College Station Mayor Nancy Berry said. “Our low tax rate makes College Station highly attractive, but it’s really more than that. People are moving here for our public schools, healthcare, green spaces, new industry and, increasingly, to retire in the same place where they spent the best years of their lives — at Texas A&M.”

Public Works employee earns runner-up finish at International Road-E-O

Willie EverlineWillie Everline, a route manager in the Sanitation Division, placed second in the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) International Truck Road-E-O on Saturday in Denton.

A city employee for more than 11 years, Willie earned his runner-up trophy in the Roll-Off truck competition, which includes a timed obstacle course that is set up for seven specific scenarios. Drivers have to demonstrate good safety habits and smoothness of operation, and are graded on both while navigating the course.

CSPD program recognizes Public Works employee

City Watch - Andy GarciaLast month, sanitation route manager Andy Garcia was working his route when he found a convenience store employee unconscious near a dumpster. Andy promptly notified the police, who discovered the store had been robbed and the employee assaulted. Andy’s awareness and quick response allowed the store employee to receive the medical attention he needed. The robbery is still being investigated.
