Live Blog: Thursday’s City Council Meetings (Nov. 8)

Employer Support of Guard/Reserves

Since Veteran’s Day is Sunday, the council received a special workshop presentation on the city’s support and hiring of veterans, and their participation in the Guard and Reserve. The council also recognized several service member/employees in attendance.

Previewing Thursday’s City Council Meetings (May 24)

Here’s a quick overview of some of the items the College Station City Council will be discussing at its workshop and regular meetings on Thursday, May 24. This blog is not a complete and official agenda.

Workshop Meeting (5:30 p.m.)

Research Valley Partnership/Arts Council of Brazos Valley

The council will receive separate reports about the activities of the Research Valley Partnership and the Arts Council of Brazos Valley.

Community Emergency Operations Center

The council will discuss the Inter-local Agreement for the Community Emergency Operations Center, a collaborative effort among the cities of College Station and Bryan, Brazos County and Texas A&M. The CEOC has been in operation in downtown Bryan since April 2008. The agreement will be on the consent agenda during the regular meeting.

Live Blog: Thursday’s City Council Meetings (March 8)

8:25 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned. The council meets again March 22.

Garza Appointed to Keep Brazos Beautiful Board

The council unanimously approved Venessa Garza to a three-year term as the city’s representative to the Keep Brazos Beautiful board of directors.

8:23 p.m.

Rezoning of Former Plaza Hotel Property

After a public hearing, the council unanimously approved the rezoning of 11 acres at the northwest corner of the Texas Avenue and University Drive intersection to allow for a mixed-use and multi-family redevelopment. All existing buildings, including the former Plaza Hotel tower, will be demolished before building permits will be issued. Improvements to the intersection are expected to offset the impact of the development on traffic.

City Council Preview (March 8 Meetings)

Here’s a quick overview of some of the items the College Station City Council will be discussing at its workshop and regular meetings on Thursday, March 8. This blog is not a complete and official agenda.

Workshop Meeting (4 p.m.)

NOTE: The workshop is starting an hour later than usual so the council can attend a special beam-signing ceremony at Fire Station No. 6, which is being built at the corner of Tarrow and University Drive.

Revenue Rescue Cost Recovery Program

The council will hear a presentation from Fire Chief R.B. Alley on the Revenue Rescue Cost Recovery program, which is designed to recover costs for responding to certain vehicle accidents, vehicle fires and hazardous material spills or leaks. The council unanimously approved program’s concept in November. Estimates indicate that about $126,000 — costs currently paid by taxpayers — could be recovered each year through the program. Examples include responses to accidents where hazardous materials such as gasoline, diesel fuel, antifreeze are spilled and have to be properly cleaned up, and accidents where injured people have to be cut from their vehicles with the hydraulic rescue tools such as the Jaws of Life.

City Council Meeting Live Blog (Nov. 10)

After discussing the council calendar, future agenda items and committee reports, the meeting was adjourned.

8:22 p.m.

Animal Shelter Board

The council unanimously approved the appointment of Chantal Vassali as the city’s new representative on the Brazos Animal Shelter Board. The regular meeting was adjourned and the council returned to the unfinished portion of the workshop agenda.

8:20 p.m.

Rezoning for 6100 Victoria Avenue

The council unanimously approved a rezoning request for 6.86 acres west of the Castlegate Subdivision on Victoria Avenue to allow residential development. The proposed rezoning is compatible with nearby properties, which are being developed for single-family residential uses. Here is the Powerpoint presentation received by the council:
