Economic Development Master Plan

The council heard an update on the first phase of the Economic Development Master Plan, which is being prepared as part of the city’s Comprehensive Plan. The first phase focuses on demographics, socioeconomic data, a preliminary assessment of market conditions, and preliminary identification of opportunities and challenges in the local market.

After discussing the council calendar, future agenda items and receiving committee reports, the workshop meeting has been adjourned. The next council meeting is scheduled for June 14.

The regular meeting has been adjourned. The council will now resume its workshop agenda.

TCEQ Public Meeting Request

The council unanimously approved a request to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to schedule a public meeting to receive stakeholder comments about a proposed permit to operate a private landfill northwest of the intersection of Stewarts Meadow and Raymond Stotzer Parkway. The proposed private landfill would contain about 4.2 million cubic yards of material and will reach its capacity in 7.4 years. The scale of the proposed facility could significantly affect the quality of life for residents and property owners in College Station and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Previewing Thursday’s City Council Meetings (May 24)

Workshop Meeting (5:30 p.m.)

Research Valley Partnership/Arts Council of Brazos Valley

The council will receive separate reports about the activities of the Research Valley Partnership and the Arts Council of Brazos Valley.

Community Emergency Operations Center

The council will discuss the Inter-local Agreement for the Community Emergency Operations Center, a collaborative effort among the cities of College Station and Bryan, Brazos County and Texas A&M. The CEOC has been in operation in downtown Bryan since April 2008. The agreement will be on the consent agenda during the regular meeting.

City Council Preview (Jan. 12)

After a month-long break for the holidays, the College Station City Council will have its first meeting of 2012 on Thursday, Jan. 12, with topics ranging from the city’s tree trimming program to an update on the Medical District. This blog is intended as a quick overview of just some of the topics the council will be considering and is not a complete and official agenda. Click here to see the official agenda packets.

Workshop Meeting (3 p.m.)

Citizens Charter Review Commission

The council will discuss a possible timeline for a charter amendment election, as well as areas of the city charter that need to be addressed. The Citizens Charter Review Commission had just begun its charter review last spring when a new state law shifted its focus to addressing the city election date, which was resolved with a charter amendment election in November. The commission is ready to resume its charter review but needs to know when the council expects the next charter amendment election. The earliest possible date for the election is November 2012, which will also include the presidential election. The other available dates are May and November in 2013.
