Have you ever considered how you can make a meaningful and tangible impact in College Station? It’s simpler than you might think.
You can volunteer your time as a youth sports coach, serve on a City board or committee, or help with projects that improve our parks, programs, and community spaces. The City of College Station offers various flexible opportunities for individuals, groups, students, and businesses to make a meaningful impact.
Friday is International Volunteer Day, making this a perfect time to explore ways to donate your time to enhance your community.
Volunteer Day: Invasive Plant Pulls
On the second Saturday of each month (except January and February), you can make a difference for water, wildlife, and wild places at Lick Creek Park from 9 a.m.-noon. Volunteer alongside members of the Post Oak Chapter of the Native Plant Society and the Brazos Valley Texas Master Naturalist to remove invasive plants, helping to preserve the park’s unique ecosystems and demonstration gardens.
Bring gloves, a reusable water bottle, and your favorite garden tools. We’re happy to provide certificates as proof of hours. Sign up at the Nature Center or call 979-764-6216.
Youth Basketball Coach
Volunteer coaches teach basketball fundamentals and help kids develop skills while learning the value of hard work, practice, sportsmanship, and teamwork. No experience is needed, and we provide the resources for a fun and successful season.
The league runs from Dec.2-March 5 and requires a commitment of three days a week. It takes a holiday break from Dec. 16-Jan. 5. Games are played on weeknights between 6 and 9:30 p.m., and Saturday practices are scheduled between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Apply online or call 979-764-3486. You must be at least 18 years old and complete a background check.
Boards, Committees and Commissions
These vital citizen groups greatly influence our community’s quality of life, and we provide numerous opportunities for you to make a difference. If you are 21 or older, a registered voter, and live in College Station, you meet the basic requirements to serve.
Complete descriptions of City boards, commissions, and committees are available at cstx.gov/committees. For more details or to request a paper application, contact the City Secretary’s Office at cso@cstx.gov or 979-764-3541.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28. The City Council will make appointments in January.
Christmas Classics: Movie Nights at City Hall
Visit College Station hosts a series of Classic Christmas Movies at City Hall every Friday night until Christmas. You can help spread holiday cheer as part of the set-up crew, serving popcorn, and even assisting with letters to Santa!
Register to volunteer online, or contact Visit College Station for more information.
Texas USA Wrestling
Over 700 high school wrestlers from across Texas and nearby states will compete in Texas USA Wrestling-South Region’s annual tournament Jan.10 -11. Local volunteers are crucial in making it a successful event.
No experience or knowledge of wrestling is required for any of the positions. For more information, contact Abby Shelger at 908-310-6784 or volunteer@south-txusaw.com.
Group Service Projects
Help clean up and beautify our community! Worthy single-day and annual projects are available for any group size or type. Projects include park and creek cleanups, planting, and weeding. Staff members will review your request and help identify the best project for your group.
Groups must include at least one adult supervisor for children under 18. To sign up, complete the group service project form and email it to parks@cstx.gov. Volunteers must submit a waiver and be at least 16 years old unless otherwise noted. An adult must accompany anyone younger than 16.
